The total cost of the program is 1,000 baht per credit, or 120,000 baht, over three years.

How does it work and when do you study?

Thongsook College will schedule 14 weeks of classes per year.  This will be from the first Monday of March through the second week in May and four weeks in October.

There are 120 credits in this program.  Of those 120 credits, the following will NOT require a face-to-face component at Thongsook college:
 
--Your 120-hour TESOL course (wherever you took it) and the 29 units of Intro to TESOL:  6 credits
--One term of Journals and teaching:  6 credits
--General Science:  3 credits
--Language Acquisition Research Paper:  6 credits
--Phonology, Morphology and Syntax Research Paper:  6 credits
--Methodology Research Paper:  6 credits

Over the course of thee years you will be assigned these classes that you will complete during your free time.

That leaves 84 credits, or 28 classes, that you must attend face to face.

One week is one class, so over the course of your study you must attend class for 28 weeks.   
 
During the 14 weeks of classes per year we will offer as many of the classes as possible, duplicating them so those that missed can make them up.

You attend as many as you choose to, whenever it fits into your schedule.  Most people with normal vacation times can complete this degree in three years.

Eligibility:

Must be a native English speaker and hold passport from one of the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa or have TOEFL score of at least 550 or be currently employed as an English teacher in Thailand.
Must be able to get along with others and live/adapt in a foreign country.
 
Frequently Asked Questions:
 
Will I get a legal visa? Yes you will have an EDU visa as long as you remain a student of this program.  And unlike those visas you obtain from Thai language schools you do not need to renew it every 90 days, just every year.  Please be aware that a B visa is technically required to be employed in Thailand.   
 
How does this degree compare with US university degrees? These degrees, based upon the Thailand Commission of Higher Education, has less General Education credit hours (30) and more hours within the major (90+)  
 
Who are the instructors? Each instructor will have at least a Masters degree in TESOL or a related subject and be a fluent speaker of English.  These include Dr. Vinit (Tony) Phinit-Akson and Hemanta Raj Dahal, current president of NELTA (Nepalese English language Teaching Association) who has his MA TESOL from Leeds University.
 
Is the degree internationally recognized? Most certainly yes.

It will fulfill the requirement for a degree to obtain a Work Permit in Thailand as an English teacher.

We contacted Harvard University and UCLA to ask if the Thongsook BA TESOL degree would be accepted for admission to graduate school.  In both instances we were told that yes, it would be accepted as a legitimate degree.

You can proudly and legitimately claim you have a degree whenever asked.
If you choose to teach English in other countries, so far only Saudi Arabia refuses this degree as they require all applicants to have a degree from their home country.

Do I get any vacation time?  As we mentioned above, we will have classes for 14 weeks per year.  If you wish to complete the degree in 3 years you must attend 9 weeks of classes per year and the other coursework listed.  But the dates of attendance are quite flexible.  You may choose to study for more than three years—this is up to you .
