You might be surprised to hear that Michigan has the longest freshwater shoreline in the entire world. That’s what makes Michigan a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts looking for adventures. On top of that Michigan is the only state in the US that consist of two peninsulas that are divided by the Great Lakes. You can imagine how many natural wonders there are in Michigan due to this unique geographic location. Most people come to Michigan to spend time outdoors, for example, hiking, biking, rock climbing, fishing, skiing or camping. If you sign up for our TEFL/TESOL certification course, you will have plenty of opportunities to explore all that Michigan has to offer.
Michigan has a staggering 97 state parks, 6 state forests, and 4 national parks. Isle Royale is a great example of Michigan’s abundant nature. This rugged, isolated island truly offers untouched nature. It is surrounded by Lake Superior and offers adventures for backpackers, boaters, hikers and even scuba divers. Keweenaw is another major national park in Michigan. Native peoples started mining copper over 7,000 years ago. Even though the mines are long closed, you can still see their marks on the land.
The Pictured Rocks are another major attraction in Michigan. These sandstone cliffs are surrounded by beaches, waterfalls, lakes and a splendid shoreline. People not only come here for sightseeing but also to hike and camp in all four seasons. These rocks are located on over 40 miles of Lake Superior’s shoreline and are a picturesque site to visit. Lake Michigan also has a spectacular shore at Sleeping Bear Dunes. Here, you will find unique flora and fauna, clear lakes and lush forests. The high dunes offer splendid views of the entire lake and lighthouses, coastal villages and farmsteads add to the charming ambiance.
Another historic and geographic gem is Mackinac Island in Michigan. This island is located about 7 miles from land in Lake Huron. It played an important role during the French and Indian War and later in the American Civil War. It truly seems like time has not passed in Mackinac Island as no motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. It is the ideal place to indulge in history with countless museums and historic attractions. On top of that, Mackinac Island features lovely revolutionary architecture and family-owned restaurants. You can only reach the island by ferry or by traversing the ice in the winter with a snowmobile.
Michigan is filled with exceptional scenery, historic sites, and great lakes. It is a wonderful place to take your TEFL/TESOL course in. Upon completion, you will obtain your internationally recognized certification and our staff will assist you in finding a suitable teaching position in your dream destination around the world.
